Santana (Brazil)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Santana is a region in eastern Brazil in the Araripe Basin on the border between the states of Pernambuco , Piauí and Ceará . The region is named after the city of Santana do Cariri , which is located here.

Santana is best known for the important Santana Formation , one of the most important fossil deposits in the world. This lies at the foot of the Araripe Plateau, the highest elevation in the Araripe Basin with a maximum height of 600 to 900  m and an extension of about 200 kilometers from east to west. The region is therefore also called “Berço dos dinossauros” (cradle of the dinosaurs ) in Brazil .
