Saskatchewan Herald

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Saskatchewan Herald was founded in 1878 by Patrick Gammie Laurie in Battleford , Canada . It was the first newspaper in what is now the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . Laurie remained the lead author until his death in 1903, after which the newspaper was continued by his son Richard Carney Laurie and his daughter Effie Laurie Storers was also one of the regular authors. After Richard's death in 1938, the paper was discontinued. Especially in the early period before the founding of the province of Saskatchewan (1905), the newspaper represented the point of view of the Anglo-Canadian settlers of that time. PG Laurie himself, closely associated with the Canadian Party and its founder John Christian Schultz , is described by chroniclers as national-conservative even in comparison to his environment, which is reflected in the articles in his newspaper until his death.
