Sativum ( Latin neuter for cultivated, bred ) - often in the male ( sativus ) or female form ( sativa ) - is a species epithet in botany that designates certain useful plants.

A large number of examples can be found in the list of vegetables , but other cultivated plants such as Crocus sativus , Castanea sativa or Cannabis sativa also carry this species addition.
