Sow tooth (tool)

Pig tooth

The sow tooth is a garden tool for cultivating the soil , which is used to loosen the soil. A long crescent-shaped prong is mounted on the handle , at the tip of which there is a plow-sharp small leaf . The blade at the tip can be forged from the prong or welded to it.

In contrast to digging with a spade , only the top soil layer (approx. 10 cm deep) can be loosened with the sow tooth. The natural stratification of the soil is not disrupted. It is therefore mainly used in organic or ecological horticulture .

The term deep aerator is used for the sow tooth, but also for other devices and machines with a similar function.
