House No. 8 on the Vorderen Vorstadt in the city of Aarau , known as the Saxer House , was built at the end of the 17th century instead of a hospital. It is located on the southwest corner of the road where the Rains joins the Vordere Vorstadt.

history

The hospital that stood at this point goes back to sister Gertrud Wagner. In 1344 she donated the house she lived in to build a hospital in the city. Inside was a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas. From 1533 the first classroom of the German schoolmaster was housed in the hospital. Presumably due to a lack of space, the hospital moved into the former St. Ursula monastery at the end of the 17th century . The building was sold to a surety named Saxer, who had the hospital demolished and a new building built. Based on the carved year with the builder's coat of arms, it is assumed that the building was completed in 1693. It has been used as a commercial building in modern times, with a shop fitting on the ground floor, for which the ground floor was massively redesigned in the middle of the 20th century. Even before this renovation, there was already a shop fitting with shop windows on the east side.

In front of the north side of the house is the Wilder-Mann-Brunnen on the small forecourt at the intersection . The medieval fountain from 1571 was replaced by a neo-Gothic fountain in 1860.
