The Scabby Range Nature Reserve is a nature reserve located southwest of Namadgi National Park in New South Wales , Australia , approximately 25 km from Adaminaby and 55 km from Canberra .
Access to the 4982 hectare reserve is only possible with all-wheel drive vehicles during the dry season. Most of the area is at an altitude of over 1600 m and is frequented by climbers and hikers. The highest mountain in the reserve is Mount Scabby with a summit height of 1798 m.
The area appears to have been used by the Aborigines from the nearby Namadgi National Park , and traces of cattle-raising in the Sams Creek Valley suggest early European settlement.
The reserve, which was added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2008, is home to the gray kangaroo , red-necked wallaby , ringbutler , southern bush rat , Australian wide-toothed rat and 35 species of birds.
