Shaker tube

A shaker tube is a cylindrical vessel rattle that belongs to the shaker idiophones . It usually consists of a bamboo or metal tube closed at both ends and is filled with different rattle bodies, such as seeds, rice, peas, stones or sand.

By rhythmically shaking the pipe, the bodies hitting themselves and the wall produce a noisy sound. These noises can take on the role of meter in a piece of music.

Especially in Latin American music, shakers are considered to be shakers . If the tube ends are not tight, but closed by a membrane, it is called a rattle drum . In Brazilian music , shakers and, moreover, all kinds of rattles are called chocalho .
