Manhole hooks are aids for lifting and opening manhole covers . They are usually used in pairs.

To lift a manhole cover, the tips of the manhole hooks are inserted into elongated holes in the manhole cover and rotated 90 degrees so that the cover rests on the broad sides of the arrow-shaped tips. The ring-shaped handles then allow the manhole cover to be lifted.

In order to relieve the back and because manhole covers are often heavy (to withstand the weight of trucks and buses), other hooks are used in sewage disposal companies. These hooks have ring-shaped handles to securely grip the hook. An approx. 70-80 cm long rod is welded to this ring, which has a pointed end slightly bent at a 90 ° angle. As with the other hook, this end is inserted into the hole and then the cover is pulled out diagonally upwards (turning the hook is not necessary with round holes).
