Shahbaz (or Shahbaz , Persian شهباز Schahbāz , DMG Šahbāz ) is the name of a mythical bird from Persian fables. The designation consists of the words shah (king) and Baz ( Hawk together) and thus does King Falcon .

The mythical creature is shaped like a falcon or hawk , but the size of an eagle . It is said to have lived in the Zagros , Elbors and Caucasus mountains. The Iranian mythology has the Schahbaz which the spirit of divine glory Xwarenah ( Farr ) is said to have accompanied to Persia, a helping role in the settlement of Iran to. As a bird, Xwarenah appears in ancient Iranian literature, for example in Yasht 19 of the holy book Avesta in connection with the king Yima Xšaēta ( Jamschid ).

The Schahbaz sometimes with the Zoroastrian spirit Farvahar equated that even before birth there is a human being and lives on even after his death.
