Schahrestan (urban development)

In medieval cities in Central Asia, Schahrestan or Schahristan is the city ​​center surrounded by a city ​​wall with towers and gates . Within the Shahrestan there is often a specially walled citadel . Outside the city walls are settlements labeled Rabat (= suburb).
