As a switch box , also as a device box or as a device connection box ; In Switzerland known as an inlet box (French: boîte d'encastrement ), a connection unit installed under the plaster or in walls is referred to in electrical installation , which is used to connect stationary equipment such as switches , dimmers , sockets or other electrical or electronic components record.

description

Switch box (flush-mounted version)

The switch box has a rounded shape, apart from its side openings, with a diameter of about 68 mm, provided it is intended for flush-mounted installation. In the case of a planned installation in lightweight walls in dry construction , it is made of fire-retardant material and provided with a collar, which enables it to be built flush into lightweight walls. In the case of installation in a lightweight wall, the hole required for assembly is made with a hole saw .

Electrical equipment such as switches or sockets are installed in switch boxes. There are also switch boxes in a recessed version, in which there is space behind the actual equipment to make further wiring and terminal connections and thus sometimes to be able to completely do without so-called junction boxes in simple installations.

In the case of installation in a lightweight wall , the so-called cavity wall switch box is fastened with metal claws instead of plaster and, thanks to its fire-retardant and possibly gas-tight construction, it counteracts any smoldering fire that may arise, at least for a specified time, which is specified in the respective fire protection regulations, in order to prevent its function for the given timeframe.

A switch box has a diameter of approximately 68 mm, a depth of approximately 45 - 66 mm and an installation opening of approximately 60 mm.

The execution of switch boxes of various types is standardized in Germany in DIN -49073.
