Switching system (technical informatics)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In technical computer science, the term switching system is the generic term for the terms switching network and switchgear and describes digital systems that function as the control part of technical devices and systems. While combinatorial switching systems ( switching networks ) always generate the same output values for each combination of their input values, sequential switching systems ( switching mechanisms , sequential circuits ) can generate different output values for sequences of the same input values. This functionality can be generated both with the help of electronic components and with electromechanical or pneumatic switching elements.
