The disc-head club is a weapon from Papua New Guinea.
description
The disc head club has a disc, star or flower shaped head made of stone. The impact head has a round opening in the middle, which is used to accommodate the shaft. The shaft is made of wood and becomes thinner from the head end to the handle end. The end is pointed. The shape of the shaft ensures that the stone head cannot come loose when hit. Until the importation of metals by the Europeans, this club was used for fighting and ceremonies. When weapons made of metal became available in the trade, the traditional disc-head club was only used for ceremonial purposes.
