Scheps (a type of brewing ) was a thin beer that was popular in Bavaria until the 1950s . It was naturally cloudy (unfiltered) post beer and had a low alcohol content .

The main consumers were the low-income strata of the population and the harvest workers were also brought to the fields in open jugs.

Today light beer is fashionably referred to as Scheps in some, mainly smaller, breweries .

In some Upper German dialects the adjective scheps is a synonym for “crooked”, “warped”, “not straight”.
