Breslauer Schöps

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Breslauer Schöps , sometimes referred to as Scheps , is a historic wheat bock beer from Breslau .

Variants

  • White Schöps:

In 1500 the Wroclaw City Council founded its own city brewery, the location of which was relocated to City Hall Square in 1519. The new brewery had an underground corridor to the town hall so that beer kegs could be delivered to the Schweidnitz cellar without any trouble . In 1565 an own malt house was added, in which both the barley and the wheat malts for the White Schöps were produced. Since 1578 there was a special cellar order in which the tasks of the beer buyer were regulated with those of the brewing and malting masters, the council taverns and beer buyers. In addition, it was now stipulated that beer could only be served to guests who had previously paid. From 1821 onwards, bottom-fermented beers with a lower proportion of wheat were increasingly produced in the city brewery, and from 1837 on, "golden yellow beer of the Bavarian brewing style" was also produced.

  • Brauner Schöps:

From around 1850 there was also Braunen Schöps as a bottom-fermented variant with a significantly lower wheat malt content

  • Schöps as a brand:

The word Schöps is protected by trademark law in Germany .
