Hans-J. Manger

Hans-J. Manger (born May 2, 1940 in Pößneck ) is a German brewing scientist.

Life

Manger completed an apprenticeship as a brewer and maltster in the rose brewery Pößneck with internships in the malthouses in Arnstadt and Erfurt. He studied fermentation technology at the Humboldt University of Berlin (HUB) with a degree in engineering. Afterwards he was laboratory manager in the Gera beverage combine as well as a research assistant in the NAGEMA institute , senior scientific assistant in the technology department of the food industry / food technology (NGW / LMT) section of the HUB and director of production and technology in the Oderland brewery in Frankfurt (Oder) . In 1973 he completed a distance learning course at the TU Dresdenas a university engineer specializing in processing technology / processing machines. In 1975 he completed his dissertation at the Biosciences Faculty of the HUB with contributions to the design and technical equipment of large-capacity vessels for fermentation and maturation of beer. In 1980 he received the license to teach in the field of machines, apparatus and systems in the fermentation and beverage industry at the Biosciences Faculty of the HUB. In 1987 he completed his habilitation at the Agricultural Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin with a collective work with Heinz Döbler and Lothar Fischer on contributions to process design, rationalization and improvement of the effectiveness of beer production .

Manger has been the editor and publisher of the yearbook of the Society for the History of Brewing since 1999 and is on the editorial board of the brewing science journal Brauerei Forum (BF).

Honors

  • Honorary member of the Berlin / Brandenburg regional group of the German Brewers' Association .
  • In 2015 he received the VLB's badge of honor in gold
