action

Larkin's family, who live on an island, find a basket in front of their door, in which the baby Sophie is lying, after the last holiday guests leave at the end of summer. The mother left it because she cannot take care of her and asks that she take care of her daughter until she picks her up again.

Against the will of the father, the mother decides to keep it. Now, with the new family member, the long postponed argument about the death of Larkin's brother, who died six months earlier shortly after birth, is taking place. Sophie virtually takes his place and even the father and Larkin, who have been resisting it the longest, soon see the baby as a family member. But after a year what everyone was anxiously expecting occurs: the real mother appears and leaves the island with Sophie.
