As a laminate , layered composite material or laminate are fiber composite materials referred to, consist of several layers of different material.

The frequently used decorative laminate panels (abbreviated to DIN for decorative plastic laminate) usually consist of several paper or fabric layers , which are soaked in phenolic resin in the core and melamine resin as the edge layers and then joined together under heat and pressure .

Usually the top layer of paper ( finish film ) is provided with a motif (from wood to metallic to marble). Due to the variety of decorations, one also speaks of "decorative laminate panels" or "decorative laminate" for short. The decor paper is protected from mechanical impact by a transparent overlay. These laminate panels form the basis for worktops, window sills and forming elements.

  • Compact panels (from 2 mm thick), also called solid core panels, do not require a carrier material and can be designed from both sides. They are particularly suitable for cladding facades because they are not only moisture-resistant and antistatic, but also safe from vandalism.
