The Schickert-Werk Rhumspringe is a former branch of the Schickert-Werk Bad Lauterberg for the production of hydrogen peroxide , camouflaged as T-Stoff , in Rhumspringe . The start of production was imminent in March 1945, but the chemical plant no longer went into operation.

history

In November 1938 Otto Schickert & Co. KG (Osco) was founded as a subsidiary of the Elektrochemische Werke Munich, Dr. Adolph, Pietzsch & Co. (EWM) founded in Berlin. The EWM put hydrogen peroxide on a commercial scale ago. The orders for the construction and operation of the branch in Rhumspringe were given in 1938/1939 by the Reich Ministry of Aviation . The factory was supposed to produce 2,100 tons of hydrogen peroxide per month in a concentration of 80 - 85% using the Pietzsch-Adolph process , which is the hydrolysis of potassium peroxodisulfate to hydrogen peroxide. For the supply of water to cool the electrolysis and the generation of steam which served Rhumequelle . The hydrogen peroxide produced in the factory was to be used to start and operate the V2 .

In October 1942, construction work for the plant in Rhumspringe began under the leadership of Hochtief AG . In the Rhumspringe plant, as in Bad Lauterberg, five production halls were to be built, but the plans for three halls and the corresponding auxiliary buildings were cut. Production in Hall 1 was to start on May 1, 1945, in Hall 2 on September 1, 1945 and in Hall 3 on March 1, 1946. Although at the end of December 1944 over 1,300 workers were working on the construction site , these time limits could not even be met. At the end of the war, the foundations of Hall 1 had just been poured. Work on the second production building was furthest advanced, so that the installation of the machine park began in the spring of 1945. When the war ended in 1945, the production of hydrogen peroxide could no longer be started.

In addition, a coal-fired power plant was built because the energy supply for the planned plant was not ensured via the overhead line. The coal-fired power station was put into operation by the Prussian Electricity Corporation from 1949 and closed in 1972. Today there are several small businesses on the site.
