Ship operations officer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ship operations officer, or SBO for short, is occasionally part of the crew of seagoing ships in merchant shipping and, unlike the classic nautical or technical ship officer, takes on tasks and responsibilities in overall ship operations . For this he needs both a nautical and a technical certificate . On ships for which the deployment of ship operations officers is not intended, the officer who is qualified in overall ship operations can also be deployed exclusively as a nautical or technical ship officer. A change between the departments during the assignment or alternating between trips is also possible.
