The discovery of the ship settlement from Mosfellsbær about 600 m east of Minna-Mosfell and 400 m north of Laxnes in Mosfellsbær east of Reykjavik in Iceland by Sigurlaug Sæmundsdóttir considerably expands the range of the ship settlement , which was previously only known from Denmark, Germany and Scandinavia. Guðmundur Ólafsson examined and measured the structure.

The east-west-oriented ship setting is 30.4 m long and 9.5 m wide at the widest point. The structure is a double curved row of stones, in which the stones were laid irregularly at a distance of 50-100 cm. The diameter of most stones is 25-40 cm, the largest stones are 50 cm high and about 15 cm in diameter. The shape of the ship is pointed in the west and rounded in the east and therefore does not quite correspond to the symmetrical Scandinavian models. The exact time when the ships were set is not yet known, as no datable finds have been made so far. In his report, Guðmundur Ólafsson came to the conclusion that the stones were not laid during the saga, but in the 20th century, and justified this with the remains of moss under the stones. In 2008 the longhouse of Hrísbrú , a Viking homestead , was excavated in the municipality and finds from the Viking Age (800 to 1050 AD) were made.
