Battle of Fraga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Battle of Fraga took place on July 17, 1134 between the Almoravid army and King Alfonso I of Aragon, known as "el Batallador" .

After several successes against the Almoravids, the King of Aragón carried out a long siege of the then still Moorish city of Fraga , whose inhabitants asked for help from the Almoravids. The victorious outcome of the battle for the Almoravids also meant their last success on the Iberian Peninsula. The Christian troops suffered heavy losses. Alfonso I died on September 7, 1134, probably as a result of injuries sustained in the battle.
