As abrasive bristle be abrasive through Patch nylon bristles as fill material for brushes designated (abrasive nylon brushes). Silicon carbide , aluminum oxide , chromium oxide , diamond or zirconium are used as abrasives .

The grinding effect results from the hard and sharp points of the abrasive material that is enclosed in the nylon. When machining workpieces, a certain amount of abrasive is always released due to the wear and tear of the nylon.

These properties enable abrasive nylon brushes to follow the contours of a workpiece. Abrasive nylon withstands extreme conditions of use that can result from heavy workpiece profiling, sharp edges and in hard-to-reach places.

Plastic grinding brushes are used in metal construction for the finishing of stainless steel components , for deburring and for smoothing surfaces and edges.

When processing soft materials, the finer wires of brushes made of metallic materials can cause grooves to form in the surface. When using brushes with plastic abrasive bristles, this risk is lower due to the thicker bristles.

Plastic abrasive brushes are well suited for the surface treatment of wood and wooden materials if a splinter-free and smooth, but lively and slightly structured surface is desired.
Electric polishing or satin finishing machines equipped with plastic abrasive brushes can be used to recondition half-timbered beams and other wooden parts when renovating old buildings .
Old and dirty wood can be easily cleaned and smoothed with plastic brushes without losing its patina .
