Notholirion bulbuliferum is a species of plant in the genus Notholirion from the lily family (Liliaceae).

description

The plants reach heights of 60 to 150 cm. There are 10 to 24 flowers per grape-shaped inflorescence . It has pale violet to blue-violet, horizontal, hermaphrodite, slightly fragrant flowers. The bracts are equally shaped ( tepals ) (2.5 to 3.6 × 0.8 to 1.2 cm). The elongated, brownish capsule fruit is 1.6 to 2 cm long, with a diameter of about 1.5 cm. The flowering period is June to July. The fruit ripens in the same year, after which the plant dies. Before the old plant dies, many 3 to 5 mm small, oval bulbs are formed.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

distribution

The species is native to the Chinese provinces : Gansu , Shaanxi , Sichuan , Xizang , Yunnan ; in Bhutan , Nepal and Sikkim . They thrive in thickets and on mountain pastures at altitudes from 3000 to 4500 m above sea level. It prefers well-drained, fresh and humus rich soils.
