Alexander von Lingelsheim

Alexander von Lingelsheim (born September 27, 1874 in Arolsen ; † March 5, 1937 in Breslau ) was a German pharmacist and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Lingelsh. "

Alexander von Lingelsheim was a seaman from 1892 to 1895 and drove to Africa and North America, but after an injury decided to become a pharmacist. He completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacist in Jena and Leipzig, graduating in 1900, studied at the University of Breslau and was there from 1904 to 1929 as an assistant at the Botanical Garden and Museum. In 1906 he received his doctorate at the University of Rostock and since 1910 taught botany at the Technical University in Breslau . In 1929 he founded a pharmacy in Breslau and in 1932 he became an associate professor of pharmacy at the University of Breslau (where he completed his habilitation in 1926).

He wrote a handbook article on olive trees and ash trees . He also published a lot about medicinal plants.

Honors

On June 3, 1920 ( registration number 3441 ) he became a member of the Leopoldina . The genus Lingelsheimia Pax 1909 of the Putranjivaceae family is named in his honor.
