Tow decoys

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In military seafaring, a noise-generating float that is towed by a ship in order to cover up its own noises or to generate a higher noise level astern is referred to as a drag decoy (sailor's German: Raddeldaddel - or Rabatz buje ) . The whole thing serves to defend against noise- seeking torpedoes or mines that react to screw or machine noises, for example the German torpedo Zaunkönig from the Second World War.

Remarks

  1. The term "Raddeldaddel" probably refers to the sound of the noise generated, while "Rabatz" alludes to the volume.
