The Schleswig-Holstein Automobile Club eV (SHAC) , based in Kiel, is a regional automobile club in Schleswig-Holstein and a corporate club of the Automobile Club of Germany (AvD).

history

The SHAC was founded on February 24, 1912 under the chairmanship of Baron Weber von Rosenkranz in the "Hotel Germania" in Kiel and was the first nationwide automobile club in Schleswig-Holstein. Members of the first presidium were also: Rear Admiral Wilhelm von Lans , Director Claassen, Banker Ahlmann and Dr. med. Jess. Prince Heinrich of Prussia took over personal protectorate over the club immediately after it was founded. The takeover of this protectorate was a decisive step towards the independence of the club. On February 1, 1913, the general assembly decided to join the SHAC to the cartel of the Imperial Automobile Club (KAC, today AvD). The following working groups were formed to carry out the work of the club: Insurance Commission, Road Traffic Commission, Chauffeur Control Commission, Legal Commission, Sports Commission and Badge Commission.

The purpose of the foundation was to increase the safety of driving and to help prevent accidents by improving the order of vehicle traffic on the country roads, by putting up warning signs and monitoring the drivers and chauffeurs, as well as safeguarding the interests of Schleswig-Holstein automobile owners .

As early as 1912, when it was founded, the SHAC took part in a major event. In June / July 1912 (June 16 to July 2, 1912) the SHAC supported the Nordmark Association for Motor Aviation (VML) in the organization of the "Nordmarkflug" from Kiel through Schleswig-Holstein, in which the members took part in their vehicles Accompanied aircraft, organized the "fast" reporting service for the event and transported the medical personnel.

On December 3, 1925, the SHAC joined the Association of North German Automobile Cartel Clubs in Berlin. In addition to the SHAC, this association also included the Automobil-Club Westfalen , the Bremer Automobil-Club, the Grossherzoglich-Mecklenburgischer Automobil-Club , the Hannoversch-Westfälischer Automobil-Club , the Ducal Automobil-Club von Braunschweig and the Norddeutsche Automobil-Club (today: AvD Club Hamburg ). The purpose of this association was to approve and support sporting events, to uniformly represent the interests of the clubs involved vis-à-vis the cartel and to act unanimously vis-à-vis the authorities on important issues. The internal independence of the clubs involved was not affected.

The SHAC made it possible to travel internationally by automobile through the distribution of so-called Triptiks or Triptyks (Carnet de passage, border pass) in its cartel area. The SHAC cartel area stretched in the north from the border with the Kingdom of Denmark to a line in the south of Schleswig-Holstein. The line Travemünde, Lübeck, Oldesloe, Bramstedt, Wilster and in a straight line further west, was the border to the cartel area of the North German Automobile Club in Hamburg. The SHAC was instrumental in advocating the (nationwide) uniform regulation for the issue of triptics or triptyks (Carnet de passage, border passes). In 1959, the Nordmark * group in the SHAC successfully engaged in negotiations to improve the handling of tourist traffic on the German-Danish border.

A rule of today's road traffic licensing regulations that is still valid today goes back to a demand of the SHAC from 1928, the SHAC called for the equipping of trucks with "horns", today one would say horn. The traffic observation drives deserve special mention , on the occasion of which club members of the SHAC from the regions invited representatives from the police, public prosecutor's office and the building authorities into their vehicles in order to address and clear up grievances and danger spots along the routes being driven - a procedure that would also be highly recommended today .

In the course of the National Socialist conformity, the SHAC was forcibly dissolved on December 31, 1933. The SHAC was re-established on January 5, 1953 in the Kiel Yacht Club .

While in the past the safety of road traffic and the related activities of the various working groups were in the foreground, club life today is mainly determined by tourist, sporting and social activities.
