The mansion

The Buhla Castle is the mansion of an old manor and is in the municipality Buhla in the district Eichsfeld in Thuringia .

history

The history of an aristocratic residence in Buhla can be traced back to 1283. At that time a knight Ludolfus von Buhla lived, certainly more modestly than in a castle , it was more like the country residence of a country nobleman . He is also said to have lived in the nearby Hasenburg . It was owned by the Knights of Buhla until the middle of the 16th century, and by the Lords of Bodenstein from 1548 to 1585 as a fief. After that it belonged to the Lords of Berlepsch for almost 300 years . Hans von Berlepsch probably built a mansion around 1584/92. They also had the right of patronage for the church in Buhla. It is not known exactly when the present castle was built. Later the owners of the then existing castle and the associated farm changed several times and remained in private ownership until 1945.

Expropriation and continued use

After 1945 the owners were expropriated according to the land reform laws that were in force there. The castle became an accommodation for refugees from the abandoned eastern areas of Germany. It was later used as an FDGB school before it became a retirement home . In the second half of the 19th century, the estate was converted into large-scale agricultural facilities.

In 1990 the castle was worn out and necessary renovation measures were necessary. A dormitory for disabled citizens was then set up. The manor house is currently vacant, parts of the property are now used commercially
