Erpeldingen Castle

The Castle Erpeldingen ( Luxembourgish Ierpeldenger Schlass , French Château d'Erpeldange ) was a 12th-century moated castle built. The history of Erpeldingen an der Sauer is closely linked to that of the castle and its owners. The Gondersdorf family ruled the castle from 1464 to 1691, and the Barons du Prel family from 1691 to 1840. From 1840 to 1882 it was owned by the church and was inhabited by Pastor Joseph Kalbersch (until 1858). At times the building was also used as a church.

In 1882 the castle then went to the Dutch Keun family, who in return had a new church, a new rectory and a cemetery built. It remained largely in private ownership until 1983, when it was bought by the Luxembourg state.

Today the municipal administration of Erpeldingen is housed in the castle.
