The Grünbühel Castle , also lock Grünbichl lies north of the city Rottenmann in the district Villmann village .

Castle building

The castle is a gloomy, elongated building with corner projections. There are rooms with stucco ceilings from the 17th century. The chapel was renewed at the end of the 17th century.

history

The castle was first mentioned around 1419 as the “Hof am Püchl” of the Pichler family (Püchler). It came through this through marriage to the Hofmann family , who then called themselves "von Grünbühel". After Strechau Castle was taken over by the Hofmann, who had been raised to barons, it became the headquarters of this family. After the last heiress of the Hofmann family, Anna Potentiana Jörger, had to leave the country due to her Protestant faith, Grünbühel was sold. It often changed hands, such as Count Stainach, Barons von Putterer and Count Welsersheimb. The castle burned down for the first time before 1640 and was rebuilt. In 1843 Matthias Schupfer acquired the castle and made a room available to the evangelical believers von Rottenmann as a prayer room. A cemetery was also built next to the castle . Through his heirs it came to the current owners, the Thörler family. The castle suffered another fire in 1866, when most of the square building was destroyed.
