Krangen Castle

Krangen Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Krągu ) is a castle in historic Pomerania , in what is now the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . The castle is used today as the "Castle Hotel Podewils".

history

Adam von Podewils received the area in the 15th century from Duke Bogislaw X. as a fiefdom. Around 1580 Felix von Podewils had a renaissance castle built in place of the previous court. According to legend, the castle had as many rooms as the year weeks, as many windows as the year days, and as many portals as the year months. The castle remained the ancestral seat of the Krangen line of the von Podewils line for centuries. In the 17th century, Krangen Castle received an additional floor and a risalit on the north side.

In 1860 Hugo von Loen bought the castle, in 1880 Karl Wilhelm von Riepenhausen, whose family owned the castle until 1945.

After the region fell to the People's Republic of Poland , the local chief forester's office set up its offices in the castle. Later used as a school, the castle kept falling into disrepair.

Building

The castle consists of a double house with richly decorated gables, as they were popular in Schleswig and Holstein until the middle of the 17th century.
