The Krumbach Castle is located in the Bucklige Welt in the municipality of Krumbach in Lower Austria .

history

The first castle was built in the 13th century in response to the Hungarian invasions at the end of the early Middle Ages . It was largely destroyed during the Hungarian invasions in 1246 and 1260. The rebuilding partly has the character of a castle.

In 1394 the last Krumbacher Hans von Krumbach took over the rule with all accessories Pilgrim III. von Puchheim , an uncle (brother of his mother) of his, and his brothers bequeathed and remained in the possession of the Puchheimers for over 200 years.

In 1629 the rule came into the possession of the dynasty of the Counts of Pálffy -Erdöd. During the second Turkish siege in 1683, Krumbach was besieged by the Turks in vain.

After the revolutionary year of 1848 , the subservience relationship was given up, so the "rule of Krumbach" had come to an end. In 1875 the Palffy family sold the properties to the Wiener Neustädter lawyer Anton Riehl , after which there were frequent changes of ownership.

Krumbach Castle is a mighty, three-and-a-half-storey four-wing complex south of the Krumbach market. It was built on a forest hill above the valley floor of the Zöbernbach. The small chapel, consecrated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in 1250 , is currently used as a “wedding chapel”.

The castle was renovated in 1993 by the Meta Hotel Group under Walter Harwalik and has been used as a hotel and restaurant ever since. Not only was the existing structure used, but two room tracts and a seminar room were also built into the northern moat.

The Austrian Mirko Kovats operated the 120 bed hotel from 2009 to June 2014 through his TOSE private foundation as part of the Artis (Hotel) hotel chain .

The Viennese real estate entrepreneur Erich Podstatny, who has owned Plankenstein Castle in the Melker Alpine foothills since 2010 and has successfully revitalized it as an experience away from the classic hotel business, acquires Krumbach Castle in June 2014.
