The Lorberau Castle is located in Leoben in Styria ( Austria ) at the Lorberauer street in the district Donawitz .

history

The castle is a small noble seat from the 17th century, which was probably built by Lorenz Lauriga. In 1627 Lorenz Lauriga was ennobled with the title " von Lorberau ". His descendants gained influence and fortune through the iron trade. In 1644 major alterations were made to the original building, and twenty years later Johann Friedrich Lauriga von Lorberau had today's castle built. In 1668 a fire caused major damage. In 1701 the sons sold the estate to their aunt Constantia Gasteiger. She passed it on to her daughter Maria Josepha in 1747, who brought it into her marriage to Max Joseph Diewalt. In 1774 Joseph Karl Gasteiger acquired the residence, he was also ennobled with the title "Edler von Lorberau". From the 19th century the owners of Lorberau changed frequently. In 1872 the castle was taken over by the main Innerberg trade union. Today it is owned by Voestalpine AG .
