Rutzau Castle ( Polish pałac w Rzucewie ) is a castle in Rucewo, 6 km south of Putzig .

history

In 1576 the Starost von Puck Ernst von Weiher acquired the property and had a manor house built. Michal Kazimierz Radziwiłł bought it in 1676 . Queen widow Maria Kazimiera de la Grange inherited the estate and lived here for a while. After her death it went from Jakub Sobieski, in 1720 to Jerzy Piotr Przebedowski.

In 1782 the British consul of Danzig, Alexander Gibsone , bought the estate and gave it to Otto Heinrich von Keyserlingk. During the Napoleonic Wars, the manor house was confiscated and destroyed.

In 1837 the property went to Gustav Friedrich Eugen von Below. In 1851 Friedrich Wilhelm IV was a guest on the estate to witness a solar eclipse that was best visible in West Prussia.

The present castle was built from 1840 to 1845 in the brick Gothic style according to plans by Friedrich August Stüler . The castle park extends to the cliffs. Today there is a hotel in the manor house.
