Treptow Castle

Castle Treptow ( Polish Pałac w Trzebiatowie ) now houses the Cultural Center and the Municipal Library of Trzebiatów (Treptow an der Rega), in the Polish province Western Pomerania , the historical Pomerania .

history

The castle was built from 1560 through the conversion of a monastery complex. The widow of the Pomeranian Duke Philip II resided here from 1618 to 1659. After Bogislaw XIV's death in 1637, the region and the castle fell to the Electorate of Brandenburg . After a fire in 1679, the castle was rebuilt according to plans by Victor de la Port, and in 1690 a new, third wing with stables was built.

Under Duke Friedrich Eugen von Württemberg , commander of the Treptower Dragoon Regiment, the castle was redesigned in a classical style. In 1800 the castle was auctioned. From 1808 to 1811 General Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher resided here. In 1813 the new owner Brummer, Mayor of Treptow, had the south wing torn down in order to reduce maintenance costs. In 1855 the castle came into the possession of the Pomeranian State Credit Company, and the interior was converted into officials' apartments and offices.

Between the world wars, the castle was used as an agricultural school for girls. After the annexation of the region by the People's Republic of Poland , it was used for residential, administrative and storage purposes. From 1977 to 1982 the castle was restored.
