Wąsowo Castle is a neo-Gothic castle in Wąsowo (German: Wonsowo), in the Greater Poland Voivodeship , Poland , which was built in the then Buk district in the Prussian province of Poznan according to the design of the Berlin architect Gustav Erdmann between 1870 and 1872. The castle stands on an elevation and is surrounded by a spacious park with old oaks, beeches and linden trees.

history

It was originally a mansion and belonged to the Berlin banker Richard von Hardt (1824–1898). After his death, his son Friedrich Wilhelm von Hardt (1855-1938) inherited the estate and the surrounding lands of Głuponie and Chraplewo . In connection with a visit planned for 1900 by Kaiser Wilhelm II in Wonsowo, the manor house was converted into a castle. The newly added wing, a representative entrance and the converted tower create the atmosphere of a neo-Gothic castle with many secrets and legends. After Friedrich Wilhelm's death in 1938, his eldest son Richard von Hardt (1882–1945) became the new owner. He fell as a soldier towards the end of World War II . After the war, the owners were expropriated. Wąsowo Castle and Estate became a state farm.

Closed today

Since 1995, Wąsowo Castle has been privately owned again. After careful renovation, a hotel was established in the building. On February 19, 2011, a fire broke out in the attic of the castle and the upper floors were completely burned out. The castle has now been largely renovated and rooms, restaurants and event rooms are in operation. Only the tower still shows traces of the fire.

grange

After the fall of the Wall, the historic blacksmith's forge, the workhorse stable, the distillery and the barns were restored and renewed in the large estate. Since 2003, the manor has housed an organic farm selling regional products, catering for up to 40 people and overnight accommodation.
