The three-story castle is roughly in the same condition as Vischer depicted on his engraving. In the 12th century the Knights of Waasen are mentioned as owners. Over the centuries there have been frequent changes of ownership. The knight families of the Pernegger and Holzapfel appear as the owners of the lordship, as well as the count families of the Stubenberg, the Galler and the Liechtenberg. One of the ten different owners of the 20th century was Freiherr von Liebig, who is pictured with his wife in the glass windows of the castle chapel. The German Reich, as the owner of the palace, deposited some of the armory's weapons in some of the palace's 42 rooms. The castle is no longer inhabited.
