Spotting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spotting is called a brownish discharge from the in sexually mature female vagina , the outside of menstruation as breakthrough bleeding may occur. The actual menstruation can also appear as spotting due to illness. It can result from a disruption of the hormonal balance or from inflammation, but it does not have to be due to illness. Spotting occurs primarily in menstrual cycles or in hormonal disorders during pregnancy . In the latter case, they give the appearance of menstruating despite the fact that they are pregnant.

Other forms:

  • Ovulatory bleeding is light and short bleeding. It takes place at the time of ovulation . In a normal cycle, the hormone estrogen drops significantly shortly after ovulation. This drop in hormone levels can cause bleeding.
  • Spotting when taking the birth control pill is more common if the pill has a low level of estrogen.
  • Bleeding from an injured vessel in the vagina, for example during or after intercourse . It is usually a bright red bleeding.
  • Implantation bleeding is caused by the implantation of an embryo in the uterine lining . This is where maternal blood vessels open, but this usually happens unnoticed. The implantation bleeding is also called implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding usually takes place at the time of the next expected menstruation. In only about 4% of all cases, however, it resembles the period in terms of strength and duration, and the implantation bleeding is usually shorter and weaker.

By observing and analyzing the basal temperature , the timing of the bleeding within the menstrual cycle can be determined. This is helpful in determining the type of bleeding. Exceptions are women who use hormonal contraception , as the measurement of the basal temperature is not meaningful in this case.
