Schmitty

Schmitty , actually Inspector Schmidt , is the most important hero of the detective novels by the American narrator Aaron Marc Stein from 1935 under the pseudonym "George Bagby" .

The "somewhat bland-looking New York cop who constantly complains about foot pain" is, despite his human weaknesses, u. a. inspired by Sherlock Holmes . The pseudonym George Bagby not only acts as an indication of the author, but also as "the Watson to Schmidt's Holmes, following him on cases, and acting as biographer", ie an independent figure within the series. Schmitty is an important protagonist of international crime fiction. Between 1935 and 1983 he wrote a total of fifty-one novels about him.

Schmitty was u. a. translated into German, French and Spanish.
