Crop marker (also cut mark , crop marks , cutting characters or format brand ) is a term from the printing industry .

Cut marks are small lines that can be found on the uncut printed sheet and mark the final format of the printed matter. They give the bookbinder an indication of the point at which the raw sheet should be trimmed and separated from the overfill .

Imposition and layout programs set the cutting and folding marks themselves. In electronic prepress , cutting marks should not be set manually, as in this case they are interpreted as graphic elements. Automatically added cut and format marks, on the other hand, are recognized and processed as such by imposition and layout programs.
