School Choice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

School Choice is a US school program that allows students to attend classes in any private or public school. The pupils or their parents receive a voucher, a tax exemption or a scholarship from the school district. The School Choice program aims to encourage parents to become more involved in elementary or secondary school.

In the United States, School Choice refers to a social, political movement that wants this program to be used in a school district or state. The aim of School Choice is to implement the free market of supply and demand for schools as well. There should be competition among schools with the goal of higher education for every dollar spent. Critics claim that the idea of a free market in education does not work and that School Choice tends to harm the majority of students.

A Choice School should not be confused with a Magnet School .
