Schoonschip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schoonschip was one of the first computer algebra systems in computer history.

history

The math program was developed in 1963 by Martinus JG Veltman . Schoonschip means "clear ship" from Dutch. The software was written for use in physics. Specifically, it was about calculations of Feynman diagrams in elementary particle physics. Veltman wrote the program while at SLAC .

In 1964, Carl Engelman at Miter Corporation developed another math program called MATHLAB.

The FORM computer algebra system can be considered the successor .
