Writing pressure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under writing pressure is generally understood as the physical pressure, a writing instrument of the time of generating font created on the writing surface to leave a visible, permanent write track using a suitable writing means.

In the case of handwriting in particular, the writing pressure can be determined as a feature that is largely independent of other features either directly while writing or afterwards using secondary features such as the line width, the degree of coloring or the notch depth. The pressure to write is mentioned as the second basic component of Michel 's basic components of handwriting .

Expressions

In the case of manuscripts, a distinction is made between the average writing pressure of a movement element, a word or a larger text passage on the one hand and the dynamics of the writing pressure variation, which change with the progressive writing trace, on the other. In particular, the development of the writing pressure curve is viewed as a valuable criterion when deciding whether a (sub) script is authentic or whether it is the author's identity.

Identification and documentation methods

A simple method of documenting the dynamics of writing pressure in writing on paper is to photograph the back of the writing under sidelight.
