Products

Schumag produces precision parts with a diameter of 0.3 to 60 mm made of steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals - forged blanks or extruded parts can also be processed - and the like. a. for the automotive supply industry, medical technology, hydraulics, device technology, precision measurement technology and other areas of application. The Schumag quality management system and certification according to IATF 16949 ensure the highest quality and precision.

Standard parts are manufactured for injection and die-casting mold construction, for punching tool construction as well as special parts according to customer specifications (example products: ejector pins, ejector sleeves, sprue bushings, guide pillars and bushings, cutting punches, perforating pins).

The majority of sales are generated outside Germany, in international markets (2007: 71%).

While the turnover in the financial year 2003 (September 30, 2003) was 107 million euros, after a steady increase in turnover in the following years, a turnover of 141 million euros was achieved in the financial year 2007 (September 30, 2007). During the same period, incoming orders increased from 103 million euros in 2003 to 156 million euros in 2007. The financial year 2008 (September 30, 2008) recorded a decline in sales to 131.3 million euros.

The after-tax result was largely characterized by losses in the period from 2003 to 2005. Consistent and continuous restructuring measures led to a positive after-tax result of 3 million euros in the 2006 financial year (September 30, 2006) and to a positive after-tax result of 4 million euros in the 2007 financial year (September 30, 2007). In the financial year 2008 (September 30, 2008) a positive after-tax result of 2.6 million euros was achieved.

Student internships

Schumag AG is involved in the “Course” initiative of the chambers of industry and commerce of the Cologne district in order to offer schoolchildren at its Aachen location an early insight into professional life and to open up training prospects. For example, there is a learning partnership with the Community Secondary School (GHS) Drimborn. The pupils get to know job profiles and get internships in the company.

history

Early phase 1830 to 1910: needle production and precision parts for watches

In 1830, today's Schumag AG was founded as a needle manufacture under the name "HJ Neuss'schen Fabriketablissements" . In 1876 the factory was acquired by Friedrich Wilhelm Schumacher. In 1895 the manufacture of precision parts for the Black Forest watch industry began.

Second phase 1910 to 1963: Development of mechanical engineering

In order to meet the high quality requirements in the production of precision and standard parts, Schumag began developing and marketing its own machines and systems. In 1929 the first "combined drawing machine" was sold to a German steelworks. As early as the early 1930s, machines and systems were also being produced and delivered outside of Germany.

In 1985 the company was converted into a stock corporation and it went public.

Babcock Borsig phase 1989 to 2002/2007

In 1989 the majority of the shares were taken over by the Babcock Borsig group . In the 1990s, the British "Marshall Richards Barcro" and the German "Th.Kieserling & Albrecht GmbH & Co" were acquired, whose product lines were integrated into Schumag AG. After the corporate contracts with Babcock Borsig were terminated in 2002, the company continued as a listed stock corporation.

Fall 2008

Schumag AG sold large parts of the mechanical engineering division to SMS Meer GmbH (SMS Group).

From 2009 on

After a global crisis and extensive restructuring, after a sales low of just under 40 million euros in 2009, a new start was achieved in 2010 and 2011; sales in the order of magnitude of 2010/2011 (October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011) were achieved 56 million euros can be achieved.
