Shuraya ( Syriac Aramaic ܫܘܖܝܐ, Arabic شورايا, DMG Šūrāyā ) is an organization of political Assyrism founded in Lebanon in 1978 .

The association , which appears as the Shuraya party , unites freethinkers of different origins from the Eastern Church who see themselves together as Assyrians . The "Schuraya" is not tied to any church, but defends itself against the accusation of being anti-church or anti-clerical. It claims to represent the cause of all oriental Christians and to contribute to the preservation of a Christian Lebanon. Since it was founded, she has been working with the militia and party ( Forces Libanaises ) founded by Lebanese President Bachir Gemayel (1947–1982) , with which she sees herself connected in common struggle and fate.

“Shuraya” advocates the establishment of an Assyrian state Mesopotamia in an area currently under Arab control. According to German authorities, according to the VGH Kassel, “Schuraya” is a smaller organization for displaced persons or refugees without any noteworthy political significance in the home countries of its members. However, there are other reports that portray the Shuraya differently and thus also awarded Shuraya members political asylum.

The German embassy invited two members of the Politburo to get to know the Shuraya better.

aims

"With the establishment of the SHURAYA party, the founders aimed at:

  • The establishment of a militia to defend the existence of Christian society and that of the Assyrian society living in it
  • Establishing an Assyrian political existence
  • Collection of donations for Assyrian refugees and those in need
  • The maintenance of the Assyrian culture, language and identity, in which the youth get to know their history and language better.
  • The achievement of the democratic human rights of the Assyrian people, as well as their cultural and political rights, in the recognition of the Assyrian nation as an independent identity and the free exercise of traditional customs and religious rites. "

The Shuraya also advocated the establishment of an umbrella organization for all Assyrian political organizations. It therefore disbanded and joined the Assyrian Universal Alliance (AUA) .
