Schwedenschanze (Teublitz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The so-called Schwedenschanze in Teublitz is a rectangular earth wall around 20 by 15 meters with diagonally divided projections at the corners. It is located on a sandstone knoll south of the center of Teublitz between Alte Maxhütter Straße and the railway line. It was probably not built in modern times , although the name in use today suggests that it was built during the Thirty Years War , but it is more likely of medieval origin. A modern use as a refuge during the attacks by the Swedes in the Thirty Years War and possibly also their destruction during this time is at least not excluded. Presumably the castle was a predecessor of today 's Teublitz Castle . For a long time it was also in the possession of the Teublitzer castle lords, who had a storage cellar with vaults built at the foot of the hill at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century to store the products of their estate.
