Minute of silence (Traiskirchen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minute of silence (Traiskirchen) was an art action by the Viennese media artist Raoul Haspel .

Against the background of the conditions in the overcrowded initial reception center in Traiskirchen in the summer of 2015, he recorded 60 seconds of silence as a peaceful, calm protest against the Austrian refugee policy. The recording, known as a minute of silence , was released as a single on August 21, 2015 and reached number 1 in the Austrian single charts a week and a half after its release .

All proceeds of EUR 14,660 went to a private refugee initiative that supports the residents of the refugee camp in Traiskirchen.

On October 3, 2015, Haspel held the minute's silence as part of the solidarity concert Voices-for-Refugees on Vienna's Heldenplatz with up to 150,000 people.
