Swiss Postage Stamps Newspaper
The Schweizer Briefmarken Zeitung (SBZ) is a philatelic trade journal and the official organ of the Association of Swiss Philatelic Societies. It is the world's third oldest trade magazine for stamp collectors that is still published today and the oldest still existing association and trade magazine in the German-speaking area. Each member of the associations affiliated to the association receives a copy; it can also be subscribed to without membership. The articles appear mainly in German and French. There are 9 issues a year.
history
The first Swiss stamp collecting magazine appeared in 1875 with the Schweizerische Briefmarkenzeitung , but it only appeared for a few months, was renamed the International Stamp Newspaper after only four issues and was discontinued in 1876. From 1879 to 1887 there was another Swiss stamp magazine. This was originally called Schweizer Briefmarken-Zeitung , but was renamed Schweizer Illustrierte Briefmarken-Zeitung towards the end of 1879 .
In November 1888 the first trial edition of the Schweizer Briefmarken Zeitung appeared , at that time still called Schweizer Briefmarken-Journal . The name was changed to its current name as early as 1894. Initially, the editors were various, changing clubs and associations, but with No. 1 of the 6th year it was an organ of the Central Association of Switzerland, followed by other clubs that published the paper in the meantime .
In the 1960s, the SBZ had a circulation of 6,000 and at the best of times around 25,000. Today the circulation is 10,500 copies and the trend is still falling.
