Swiss Medical Weekly is a medical journal that has been published since 1871 . Its predecessors were the correspondence sheet for Swiss doctors (1871-1919) and the Swiss Medical Weekly (1920-2000). The contributions go through a peer review process. The articles are published according to the “platinum open access ” model and are therefore freely accessible to readers. There are no publication fees for the authors. In 2010 the magazine introduced the publication model of "continuous online publication": all articles are published online continuously. In the print edition, the articles are summarized in the form of "extended abstracts", as a quick overview of new research results. The 2014 impact factor is 2,086.
