SciDAVis is free software for the visualization and analysis of measured values . It is a spin-off from QtiPlot and is under the GPL .

function

SciDAVis is comparable to programs like Origin , but does not offer the same variety of functions. SciDAVis allows various import options:

  • direct input of the measured values
  • Open and import graphics
  • ASCII import with different formats into a new table.

After processing the data using mathematical functions , the result can be displayed using 2D / 3D diagrams of various types. Further functions of the program can be used here, such as fitting , FFT , integration / differentiation . Finally, a diagram can be improved with graphics tools. Many formats are available as export options, including PDF , EPS , JPEG , PNG . SciDAVis has script support for the languages MuParser and Python , with which you can add your own functions.

history

SciDAVis is originally a spin-off from QtiPlot in version 0.9. Versions 0.1.0 (dated August 5, 2007) through 0.1.4 did not differ much from QtiPlot. In version 0.2.0, extensive innovations were introduced, especially with regard to tables and matrices. Various bug fixes and language packages followed with versions 0.2.1 to 0.2.3 .

aims

SciDAVis has set itself the goal of being as intuitive as possible to use for both simple and more demanding tasks. An integrated window manager is part of the operating concept . Against this background, but also with the intention of giving users a free alternative to the more restrictive and increasingly profit-oriented QtiPlot, it is increasingly moving away from QtiPlot, which in turn is based on Origin.

The developers of SciDAVis work together with the developers of LabPlot to create two different user interfaces with a common backend . LabPlot should integrate well into KDE , whereas SciDAVis only has Qt dependencies and should therefore be more platform-independent .

distribution

SciDAVis had over 60,000 downloads from the project homepage in 2015 (as of December 8, 2015). However, a large part of the installations will not have been recorded because SciDAVis is available in the package repositories of the major Linux distributions .
